Gevaudan fallowed the others' eyes to the beast they tracked. He picked up on the smallest in the herd an ebony creature seemed to be the prize.
(Santana will be first to go then)

Who else seems to have their eye on such an exhausted dark creature?
She licked her chops, eyes flickering over the others looking for a sign that they would attack. The beast she had her eye on did not seem to be attentive to that which did surround, nor did the rest of the herd seem to pay it's ebony hide much mind. A perfect target, not so much a challenge as she had originally anticipated. That, in the long run would be to their advantage. Less chance of being wounded by a stray hoof to the ribs or paw. The lesser the prey the easier it would be to take down.

[don't worry about it. Not all posts have to be gold. Everyone has off days. ]
Allanon's maw fellow open in a wide, joyful grin. Hot breath condensed and swirled in the air like fog as he panted with excitement. It won't be long now. Allanon nodded, cruel gaze never leaving his quarry.
An excellent choice. That one will do nicely.
Sable brute slunk lower into the snow, attempting to vanish into the powder. He was still a bit too far out to charge towards the nag, so he circled wide to position himself more between the equine and its herd. He would make certain it couldn't seek the safety of the group. From the corner of his eye, he watched the pack take up their own positions. He was counting down the strides before he could bolt towards the horse, muscles tensed in anticipation. Five...Four...Three...Two...One...

Gevaudan took to the side Allanon had forsaken, closing a gap of his own. The wind was with the pack. The beast would not notice them before they came into sight. Gevaudan would charge the pathetic creature and see what it would do.

Tala had been sitting there while the two males had taking positions. She needed to decide her place in the hunt now. Finally standing, she stalked out behind the two others, to make a close in a gap out the back. She was eager to sink her fangs into the warm horseflesh. White coat on white snow matched perfectly, and she had an advantage. Her head was sinking lower, and lower into a deep snowdrift. Allanon was still visible to her though. He was so close to the herd of frightened equines. The hunt was progressing nicely. Hopefully by the end of the day, they would be feasting. This female wasn’t excessively hungry now, having eaten in the last few days, but would enjoy fresh meat anyway now. Finally Allanon was ready to lunge, the time was coming, and were was Faded?

[ooc: sorry for the delayed reply. I was waiting for Faded to reply, but she has forsaken us. we will continue in her absence. Bad Faded!!! No meat for joo!] Snowshoe-like paws dug deep into the soft snow as he propelled his bulk towards their prey. The startled horse lifted his head from where he was rooting through the snow as the rest of the frightened herd bolted away from the pack. Eyes rolling with fright, the nag screamed and whirled around on his haunches. Snow flew up from beneath the horses hooves as Allanon and the pack gave pursuit. It has begun...

Gevaudan hurried ahead of the others. He took it upon him to cut the beast off from its fellows. Gevaudan would sooner through himself beneath the hooves of the creature then allow it to reunite with its herd. First through he ran up along side the horse so it was nearer to the herd then him. He took a half-hearted lunge at the beast catching its leg in between his massive jaws. It was not so deep as to stop the creature or hinder it much but as the flesh tore loose Gevaudan gave a smirk. What little he did was enough. The creature could no longer truly run straight. He circled in between the horse and the herd. The horse slowly ran away from the herd as it tried to keep itself in a straight line. All Gevaudan had to do now is keep pace with this walking slab of meat. It was already dead it just didn’t know it. The others closed in for the wound was beginning to slow the movable feast down.

Shimmering claret blood oozed from the wound, steaming slightly in the crisp winter air. The intoxicating scent of blood sent shivers of anticipation down Allanon's spine. Gevaudan had done well. Already the broomtail had begun to falter slightly, soft snow and bloodloss combining to hinder its escape. Allanon was willing to simply pursue the creature a bit longer. Weak as it was, he still had a healthy respect for those iron-hard hooves. It wouldn't be much longer until it would be too feeble to strike out.

The herd had long since vanished and any hope of help for this beast had been whisked away with it. They had chased the horse into a forest where the trees grew close together. As Gevaudan weaved between the dark woods with ease the creature slowed from pain. A line of bushes came into view and Gevaudan knew what to do. He fell back and chased the beast from behind. The bushes drew near and the creature had too little sense to turn away. It cleared the bushes without a thought but when it touched down the beast crumbled to the ground. Gevaudan fallowed with murder creeping into his eyes. Not bothering to go over he found a thin bush and bellowed straight through. The bushes where on the edge of a small clearing and the creature was trying to get to its feet. With no time to waste Gevaudan became a streak and drove deep into its other leg. While the first wound had hampered this one crippled the beast. Gevaudan spat out the warm hunk of meat and circled to the front. He just had to keep it down long enough for the others to come. He had drawn first blood he would leave the kill to another. He could not risk injury for if the past came once again he would have to fight for his meal. For now there was a more important manner at hand. Every time the creature tried to rise Gevaudan dashed forward and made the beast choose between life and standing.

Allanon wove through the thick forest with the ease of a pole bender, switching leads seamlessly with every stride to better cut back around the trunks. His smaller stature made it easier to turn and he steadily gained ground on the equine and Gevaudan. Tala became lost to him, his vision focused solely on finding a path through the timber. He reached the line of brush scant seconds after Gevaudan. Muscles coiled under his inky pelt and he sprang over a low portion of the hedge. The moment his forepaws touched down, Allanon turned to dart at the downed creature. Jaws clamped down on the horse's snout. His ears were greeted by a sickening crunch of bone as the nasal bone shattered. The horse screamed and tossed his head. Allanon jumped back, fangs dragging across the creature's snout, tearing the flesh to ribbons. The creature gasped and wheezed for breath, blood bubbling in its nasal passages.

Allanon may lead the locals but at the very least his skills in the hunt are lacking. A move on an animal so much larger is far from effective. It is time to end it. Gevaudan saw the head rise a last time as the beast exhaled its own blood. Again Gevaudan vanished in his movements only to be seen clamped around the horses throat. With a sharp twist he took the first chunk of throat from the creature's neck only to spit it on the ground and return to deepen the fatal wound. Gevaudan did not cease until a head fell to the ground and the body only spasmed slightly. The brute then continued his grisly work and circled around the beast he had fallen. The beast he had chased. Gevaudan drew up from behind to the leg he had first stroked. The leg was bent at a very peculiar angle. Gevaudan Chewed at the joint until the limb came free. The brute tore the last few ligaments to pieces and held his trophy in his jaws. Gevaudan trotted away meat in tow. He may come back for more later but for now his mind was clouded in a fog of blood.

[grrr...how dare you insult our skills. lol! just kidding. I know I suck, though I suspect someone was just impatient. whoo-hoo! all hail caffine! hyper! you know, under normal circumstances I'd apologize for my hyperness, but you should be used to it by now]
Allanon had been poised to spring at the creature when Gevaudan beat him to it. He was forced to stand back and watch in awe as the brute made short work of the horse. Never had he known one so adept at the hunt and the kill. Allanon did somewhat regret the swiftness with which his fun was ended. When Gevaudan had carried off his prize, he approached the carcass. Though it was utterly contrary to wolf nature, he was hesitant to gorge himself when the others were absent. His stomach growled in protest. Hunger won out, aided by the argument that Gevaudan could have remained but chose instead to steal away with only a limb to gnaw on. Allanon placed himself at the creature's back and began tearing into its haunch. Already an ever widening pool of blood was forming around the corpse, the warm liquid turning the thin layer of snow to slush. As he ate, Allanon kept both ears searching for sounds of the pack.

Gevaudan took no time at all to eat the hunk of flesh he had claimed. The blood lust was slowly dying in his eyes. The bone had been broken a few more times when Gevaudan had failed to control himself. He laid on the ground and slowly took his breathes. He rose and left the bones behind. He took his time returning to the corpse. Allanon came into view filling his gut on beast's fallen form. Gevaudan walked up to the carcase and removed the other two legs. As each one came free he tossed them to the side. Gevaudan then tore open the beast's gut and filled his own. The intestines and organs where rich and as savory as any could dream. There was still enough meat left to last for days but for now, at least, Gevaudan could consume no more. He dredged away from the pile of flesh and watched Allanon finish his meal. There would be so much meat left. There must be something to do with this carcase.

The air was filled with the raucous cries of crows as they circled overhead and settled in the boughs of trees. Soulless black eyes bore down on him as Allanon tore at the carcass. Warm chunks of meat slid down his throat and blood matted his pelt. It was no long before he had eaten his fill. Rising, he stalked a few yards away and allowed the carion birds their turn at the banquet. They seemed to swarm as one down on the carcass, many sheltering wings masking the corpse from view. Let them have it. Allanon had his fill and wanted nothing more than a brief siesta in the shade as he digested his meal.
[happy now? I post. conclusive enough for you? Must I revise it, or is it to thy liking?]

Gevaudan fallowed Allanon from the corpse. Such a shame to waste it but what else could be done? Gevaudan did not know what would happen next. If there will be another hunt? Will they turn on him? He did not know but for know he was part of a pack.
