Gevaudan dredged through the snow. He could now smell others once again. Lowering his head Gevaudan moved toward the familiar smell of unfamiliars. Why did snow always seem so sad?

Raven brujo wove his way through the bracken and timber near the edge of the woods as he shadowed the stranger. Whoever this brute was, he unsettled Allanon. It may have been his foreign scent or the confident manner in which he carried himself, but it was not. No, it was the stranger's immense size that made Allanon trail behind him like a thief instead of confronting him. For the moment he would remain hidden, but how long could that last?

The scent ran into itself and overlapped as Gevaudan came across a heavily used path. No longer able to tell if the others where coming or going he continued on towards the sound of water. When the stream came into view, Gevaudan slowed his pace and bowed down to drink as the sound of snow crunching under his weight lingered a view moments after Gevaudan had stopped.

[ooc: fyi, there is an active check under the general board. you have a week and a half to reply before your account is deleted (by order of zanzibar). Of course you'd know this if you ever read your bloody messages.]
Allanon was lost in thought, taking measure of the intruder and attempting to map out a course of action, when the brute stopped to drink from the creek. Caught off guard, Allanon reacted too slowly, taking an additional few steps after the other had stopped. The crunching of his paws on the new-fallen snow seemed to hang in the still air. All hopes of remaining undetected were shattered. The beast swiveled an ear back and had it trained on Allanon. But did he know for certain?
Allanon sighed softly and tried to relax. It wouldn't due for a newcomer to see him nervous and flustered. The element of surprise blown, Allanon nonchalantly trotted from the shadowy treeline to the open trail. In a voice devoid of all emotion, he said, "greetings, stranger. I am Allanon. Might I ask who you are?"

The massive brute rose and through his eyes toward the trees.
The few who have spoken to me have called me Gevaudan.
He saw a wolf that was large by normal standards. All this meant was that he stood even with the base of Gevaudan’s neck. In the back of his mind Gevaudan recalled what happened that last time he bowed to a strange brute and looked down upon this new acquaintance. Gevaudan's fur announcing his presence as through he was some twisted imitation of the sun for as bright and white the snow was he was just as dark and consuming.

Allanon nodded his ebony cranium in respect.
Gevaudan? An interesting name. I do not believe I am familiar with the dialect. Is it a safe assumption that you have traveled a great distance?
Allanon remained several dozen paces away. Everything about this monstrous beast made him uneasy, especially its massive jaws that could easily snap him like a twig. It would be a simple task for the stranger to cast him out and take over Druid Ridge for himself. For the first time since he was a pup, Allanon felt fear beginning to tighten its vicelike grip on his heart. He can't let that happen and he won't let fear cloud his mind. He kept his steady gaze fixed on Gevaudan, awaiting his next move.

I have traveled further then most will ever know.
Gevaudan could not help but let a grin creep across his lips. This Allanon was shaking inside but if he had a large enough pack he could cause quite the bit of trouble.
Have you ever heard of one called Le Bete. She would be a bytch larger then the two of us.
Without any call Gevaudan's stomach let lose with the pains of hunger. Almost embarrassed by this sound Gevaudan finally bowed to this stranger and asked
Is there any chance of meat from you and yours?

La Bete? Allanon knew this name, but made no sign of this knowledge to the stranger. La Bete was a demoness, the stuff of legends. That was all he knew her as: a legend. Her tale was told to him as a pup, a warning against wandering away lest the blood-thirsty huntress gobble you up. Utter nonsense and nothing more. Let the stranger learn for himself that La Bete is naught but a fable. Gevaudan's other question would not be met with such silence.
The only way you will be getting any meat from me and mine is if you help bring it down. There is always a seat at a carcass for one who takes part in the hunt. You may either help us or go hungry, makes no matter to me.
Allanon didn't care if the brute took offense to this or not, he had to put the well being of his pack first. Since it was unlikely they would be able to bring down anything on the first try, they could easily end up running the entire territory in search of food. There was no way he would run his pack ragged just so a stranger could lounge about and glut himself on their prize.

At least Allanon had not tried to run him off yet.
I have no qualms about tagging alone on a hunt. I had no intentions of forcing you and yours to do any extra work. I was only asking if you had a recent kill or not.
It had been a long time since Gevaudan had hunted with a pack. Maybe this time he will get to eat with one as well.

The faintest hint of a genuine smile played across Allanon's maw. The fellow's answer pleased him.
I regret to say that the most recent kills have been not but vermin, beasts too small to leave even a scrap for later. I suppose I will have to take you up on your offer of assistance, then, provided you mind your manners. After all our bellies are filled we can address your future. Sound fair?

As fair as I have ever been offered before. If you would not mind leading me to those who we will be hunting with.
This might work outfor the better after all.

From the looks of you you'll have no problems keeping up. Come, then.
Allanon turned and trotted back into the woods he had recently left. They would be able to travel quicker if they avoided the winding trails. He kept one ear tuned to the brute behind him, not quite assured that he wouldn't be ambushed the moment his back was turned.

Gevaudan fell in behind the one he believed to be the local alpha. Allanon sure did seem to believe it was true himself but Gevaudan had meet more then a few who behaved this way away from the pack. He would soon find out who truly ruled this area.
(please let me know when I can switch boards)
