Allanon listened with rapt attention to what the brute had to say. It had been a while since the pack had brought down any significant game, and this beast sounded huge. His mouth watered freely at the prospect of that much meat. Provided they could fell the creature. Amber eyes glowed with excitement and anticipation.
"Time is of the essence. Lead the way."
His tone was firm and commanding. With the distance between the pack and their prey ever widening, there was no time for debate.

Gevaudan 's smile spread across his lips once again. He turned to the way he came and started off. Gevaudan kept a light pace, they should catch the beast. Those who he needed would keep up. Gevaudan would have to tell this pack how to kill one of these creatures.
Are there any cliffs or caves in the area?
He asked no one in particular. Gevaudan stopped for a moment they had come to the blood trail.

"Caves I have yet to find, but cliffs are abundant. The Ridge drops sharply down to the Flats, making for a whole line of cliffs. The highest of them are to the far north of the Ridge, where the falls are."
Allanon supplied the answer, not realizing that Gevaudan wasn't exactly addressing him. He was somewhat puzzled by the question. Was this creature they were following so dangerous that they best way to dispatch of it was run it over a cliff? Just what did Gevaudan have in mind? Any thoughts were cut off when the brute came to a halt at the blood trail. Vivid crimson droplets clung to blades of grass and nearby shrubs. Dark spots marked where they had soaked into the earth. A foreign scent that Allanon guessed must belong to the strange beast they hunted hung heavy in the air. He was eager to track it, but would wait for Gevaudan to lead the way. This was his hunt.

Gevaudan heard the response but it sounded like Allanon had the wrong kind of kill. Now that they had found the blood trail there was no rush. He started at a lighter pace fallowing the blood, they needed more stealth now.
We will need to trap it at the base of a cliff that will leave no question that it will have to fight. Now are there any rivers, lakes, or any other body of water nearby.
Gevaudan was beginning to lament having to walk everyone through this kill but it may just reward them with a feast.

Padding lightly after Gevaudan, Allanon began to feel his confusion grow. Stand and fight? His brow furrowed with anxiety. Never had any of the packs he'd belonged to hunted in such a manner. Odd methods, but who am I to judge? He nearly missed Gevaudan's question thanks to his pondering. Chiding himself for being distracted, he answered his companion.
"Oh...um...yeah. There is a river not far from here. It's fairly wide but not too deep. It looks calm on the surface, but the current is surprisingly swift. Will it serve your purpose?"

Not mine but its. It will go to the water and try to lose us by swimming across. If it gets there first we still may lose it. We do not want to truly fight but for it to try and rear its head when it does whoever has a chance at its throat needs to take it. If the smaller ones get the chance it may take another but once you bit get away from it. Now if you would be so kind lead the way to the river.
Gevaudan slowed, he simply did not now the way. Once this was over Gevaudan would have to explore the area a little more. There was a strange scent on the air but it was probably those other beasts, probably.

Tala, lost in her own thoughts, didn't notice the two males advancing off into the shadow-cloaked trees. She snapped out of her clouding thoughts, and looked at the other two females, wondering were Allanon and Gevaudan had gone. Their scent soon told her. The white female, indignant at being left behind, trotted moodily after them. Once did she look over her gleaming white shoulder, remembering the other two,
"Well? Come on now."
She barked at the two, before continuing to trot after the males. Soft pads on damp ground made no sound, and being light and small, made no paw prints in the soft forest floor. Allanon’s scent was easy to follow, so she found them quickly. The scent of blood wafted to her nostrils deliciously. She sighed indignantly, seeing the two leaving her again. She proudly walked up, past Allanon, to the right of Gevaudan. She walked like a little sheika, if she ever deserved the nickname, princess, it was now.

Just as Allanon was preparing to take the lead that Gevaudan had relinquished, Tala sauntered past him. Long snowy coat rippled and swayed with each graceful step. "Shocking. The Princess is eager to hunt, even though it means mussing up her perfect pelt. And blood stains are ever so hard to remove from white fur," he mocked, rolling his eyes. He was slightly indignant with having his lead usurped by the femme. As he trotted past Tala, he gave a low growl and brushed her nose with the tip of his tail. He kept up his brisk trot as he headed towards the river.

Seika padded along after them, an almost bored look adorning her maw. It was a hunt and it had its uses, but sometimes they could be so time consuming. Her eyes glinted, however, with a hunger for blood and food. Thinking back, she couldn't think of the last time she had really eaten something more than a stray rabbit or mice. The creature Gevaudan had described interested her anyhow. It would be interesting to see how the pack really operated when it came down to things like this. Not just as a whole but as individuals as well.
~~~~~~~~~~
Faded glared at Tala's back after she had turned, her sage eyes glimmering with the prospect of the hunt mixed with annoyance. She wasn't really liking the white wolf. Then again, she wasn't going to let it bother her either, she wasn't worth getting in an argument or tussle over. Tail swishing slowly behind her she started after the others, quickly trotting past Seika, the newest member of her pack. She was eager for a good meal, one that would remain warm a bit longer than something smaller after it had been killed. The dark wolf almost drooled at the thought of fresh blood spilling into her mouth as they took the creature down. Thoughts once gestured toward Tala faded into the back recesses of her mind, replaced by a lust for the hunt.
Tala, shot a glare in Allanon's direction, while holding in a snease after his tail brushed her nose. Growling low in her throght, but she decided to keep her peace, for now. If the pack couldn't work together while hunting, then misfourtune would befall it, and she was not going to be the reason for the packs undoing.
"Allanon, if I was worried about getting my coat being dirty, then we wouldn't be having this conversation." She smirked.
She stared at Allanon waiting for his responce. She was once again trying to rile him up.
Two additional patterns of footfalls fell in behind the three, telling Allanon that the last of the pack had finally caught up. At least the last of those that were already accounted for, he mentally corrected himself, thinking of the absent rambunctious youth. At this point in the hunt, it would probably be a blessing if she didn't show up. Tala's response also carried to his radar, along with the underlying teasing tone. Without slowing or glancing back at the pixie he teased right back.
"Tsk, tsk. Is someone getting snippy? Does the princess get grouchy when her supper is late?"
Tala parted her maw to retort, but stopped, and closed it again, hearing the soft padding of feet behind her. Turning her head to see the last two females approaching. She once again turned her eyes forward, to the trail of blood that seemed to stretch forever. She gave a dull sigh, and gazed glacially at Gevaudan, wondering how long this would take for them to reach this monstrous creature, that he described so sufficiently. She shook her iridescent coat in boredom.
”Gevaudan, do you plan on reaching this ‘creature’ today?” she asked sweetly, a charming smile spread across her face as she looked at him. Only her eyes betrayed her impatience. They flashed, and whirled with anticipation.
If this one could lead he would but I have yet to learn this territory so the lead must fall to another. If this pack can cut it off before it reaches the water we will stand a better chance.
Gevaudan wondered why someone would waste a tone of that caliber on such empty words. He looked off into the woods and seemed to loose himself in space.
The sight and scent of the sticky droplets of blood made a trail through the realm as clear as the Yellow Brick Road. Though the path zig-zagged many times, it always headed in the same general direction.
If we always follow the trail, how will we beat the creature to the river? But if we leave the trail, how will we be able to follow it? It is too easy to lose the beast if he decided to change course. Stay on the trail, speeding up to be sure to catch it, possibly tiring ourselves too much to hunt effectively? Ignore the trail and attempt to head it off, possibly losing the beast altogether? Divide the pack to take both options, possibly leaving too few to bring down the beast when we find it?
The thoughts swirled in Allanon's mind as he trotted down the path. His brows knit together in worry and concentration. The wrong choice could cost him a meal, or worse. Without a word to the others, he forsook the meandering trail of blood, heading instead towards where he hoped their prey was traveling. He prayed that luck would be on their side.
Tala looked at Allanon with a somewhat suprised look on her face. She looked at the others, and then looked back at the alpha. Soon making her chioce, she trotted after Allanon, frouning in his direction.
"Allanon....." she said, letting her voice trail off.
